2025 Acura RDX vs. 2025 BMW X3

From one Springfield driver to another—here’s my real story after test-driving both.

I love cars, and this is probably why I work at a dealership. I was recently looking for something that felt refined but could still handle real life around Springfield, MO. After weeks of research and a few test drives, it came down to two SUVs: the 2025 Acura RDX and the 2025 BMW X3. Both looked good on paper, but one of them seriously surprised me—and I ended up giving it more respect.

Spoiler: It's the Acura RDX, and it was one of the best comparisons I have handled in a while. Welcome to Acura Of Springfield, the best Acura dealership in Springfield, MO.

Driving Around Springfield? The RDX Just Feels Right

Let’s talk about performance. The RDX has a 2.0L turbo engine with 272 horsepower—more than the X3’s base engine. You really feel that power when merging onto highways like James River Freeway or cruising through Battlefield. The 10-speed automatic transmission in the Acura is super smooth and reacts fast when you need it.

The X3 was nice… but kind of tame unless you upgrade to higher trims. And to get AWD? That’s extra. Meanwhile, the RDX has SH-AWD®, which felt so planted when I test-drove it on wet pavement. I could tell right away it would handle Missouri winters way better.

Luxury That Makes Sense for Everyday Life

Now, if you’ve got a family—that means tech, comfort, and space all matter. The RDX cabin hits all the right notes. It’s classy without being overly complicated. I love the panoramic moonroof, wireless Apple CarPlay®, and how intuitive the True Touchpad Interface™ is once you get the hang of it.

Here’s what stands out:

  • Heated and ventilated seats (a must in Midwest weather)
  • ELS Studio 3D® audio system—the sound is unreal
  • Ambient lighting that feels like a little luxury vibe during night drives
  • Plenty of legroom in the back, which my kids appreciate
  • More cargo space than the BMW X3 (and I haul a lot of stuff)

The X3 had a nice interior, but some of the features I got standard on the RDX were only available in BMW’s more expensive packages.

Real-World Room and Functionality

Whether you are heading to Branson for the weekend, packing up coolers and chairs for a game at Cooper Park, or doing a massive Aldi run, the RDX just makes life easier. It has up to 79.8 cubic feet of cargo space—way more than the X3’s 62.7—and the low cargo floor is great when you’ve got heavier stuff to load.

Peace of Mind, Built In

One of my biggest priorities was safety. I drive around Springfield with my family, and I wouldn’t want to pay extra just to get features that should already be there.

The 2025 RDX comes with AcuraWatch™, which includes:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Collision Mitigation Braking
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert

You really don’t have to play “what package is that in?” or spend more just to feel protected. With BMW, a lot of those same features were locked behind higher trims or optional packages.

Questions I Had (That You Probably Do Too)

Is the RDX actually fun to drive?
Yes! It’s surprisingly quick, smooth, and tight in corners. Definitely more engaging than I expected—especially compared to the base X3.
Does it have enough space for road trips or sports gear?
Absolutely. You can fit a folding table, coolers, folding chairs, and a week’s worth of groceries all in the back—without even folding the seats down.
How’s it in the snow?
With SH-AWD®, it’s super confident. I haven’t had to second-guess slippery side roads or early-morning frost.
Where can I see the RDX in Springfield?
I went to Acura of Springfield, and I definitely recommend them. They weren’t pushy at all, just helpful—and they had a few trims in stock I could test-drive. Made the whole process super smooth.
Is it more affordable than a BMW?
Yes. Not just upfront—but long term. Insurance, service, and maintenance will definitely be easier on your wallet.
