Looking back in history, the United States of America has been involved in conflicts that left scores dead. After the Civil War, Decoration Day began, honoring the Union soldiers who died on the battlefield. Later on, fallen heroes from World War I, World War II, and all the subsequent wars have been honored on that same day. After World War II, it was renamed to what it’s known as today: Memorial Day.
It’s always on the last Monday of May, making it easy to remember the date. Businesses close, government offices are shut down for the day, and schools and other non-essential services take a break. Flags are flown at half-staff. The intended purpose is to give each one of us Americans an opportunity to remember the heroes who gave their lives for our freedom.
Jay Wolfe Acura of Springfield Celebrates Memorial Day
At Jay Wolfe Acura of Springfield, we want to offer our sincerest thanks to our Armed Forces and their families. Your actions keep us and our loved ones safe and secure in the best country in the world. You put your life at risk, serving courageously like those who have gone before. For your service, we offer our gratitude!
What Will You Do on Memorial Day?
Whatever the weekend holds for you and your family, don’t forget the purpose of the day. While you’re enjoying a grilled steak and potato salad in the backyard, remember the soldiers who eat MREs with mortars exploding all around. While you’re hauling boat to the lake for a weekend catch, consider those in battle who may never find their way back home.
Take a moment to remember the great gift you’ve been given because of the United States Armed Forces. While the flags are waving at half-staff, visit a veterans’ hospital or donate to the Green Beret Foundation. It might be just a small token, but it can go a long way!
